Hi! My name is Yarieli Cuevas (Yari for short). I'm 29 years old and I was diagnosed with CKD when I was 3 years old. Between the ages of 7-11, I went through in clinic hemodialysis, PD and a transplant.

The transplant lasted 11 years (2008-2019) and I've been back on dialysis ever since. Started back in center and since 2020 I've been doing home hemo. While on dialysis I've also been waiting for a new kidney.

Since my teen years I've been a big advocate for kidney patients specially for the latino/ hispanic community. I also love working with patients doing the transition from pediatrics to adult or just younger patients that need someone to talk to.

I have a full time life, a husband, my own home, 4 pets and I love to travel! If I'm able to do all this I'm sure others can too.

I'm looking forward to sharing my experience with anyone who needs it, please feel free to write to me at any moment.

(📷️: collage of me through the years)

This week, I had the honor of recording a new TransplantLyfe podcast episode with Tim Andrews, and wow… this conversation really stayed with me.

Tim made history by receiving a genetically modified pig kidney that worked for nine months. He’s now back on dialysis and waiting for a human kidney, but his willingness to step forward and move science ahead has already made a huge impact on the transplant community.

We talked openly about hope, resilience, and what it means to keep going when the journey isn’t easy. It was honest, emotional, and incredibly meaningful — and a powerful reminder of why sharing patient stories matters so much.

I’m really grateful to Tim for trusting me with his story and for everything he continues to do for future transplant recipients.

I’ll add the episode link here — I hope you’ll take a listen. The episode is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and wherever you usually listen to podcasts.

TransplantLyfe — TransplantLyfe
