I'm curious, has anyone had fluid removed on the day of the surgery? I have another 15 days before my insurance activates again, and another 18 days until op. Usually, my doctor orders an ultrasound before doing a paracentesis, but they are holding off on anything that is not absolutely necessary before surgery due to the risk of infection and the low neutrophil count (I'm supposed to get meds for that in May).

I don't know what's worse, waiting for the phone call that they found a liver for you, or knowing there is one and waiting for the scheduled date? It is driving me nuts.

Hope everyone can enjoy the beautiful day,

Andreas

My coordinator mentioned last week that having somebody available 24/7 post-tx was a condition required to proceed with the tx (my wife is the living donor for me). We will have help, but we are wondering if it is really necessary 24/7?

We plan on getting a home health aide. Our insurance stated it’s a covered benefit, the doctor just has to request it. I’m sure our copayment and deductible will be maxed out after the sugery, at that point the ins. covers 100% for the rest of the year.

Why would the coordinator care? We are the ones paying for it.

what has your experience been?

Also looking for opinions on assistive devices for pulling, sitting, and standing up, like a trapeze.

Just found this site today. Jumping right in with my first post.

Male, 57, ALD, surprisingly, I wasn't a big drinker, except in my twenties.

Celiac and vitiligo are the autoimmune diseases that I was diagnosed with about 16 years ago. I'm used to sudden, necessary lifestyle changes. -

We, my wife and I, finally called the hospital to schedule my liver transplant for May 2026.

My wife will be my living donor. It has been a struggle for me to agree to that.

There are still so many unanswered questions. I work with my team and therapist. We have a small business that relies on my wife and me to be present and working.

In the last few years, we took up recreational running, and now I've started running in the gym and lifting weights. My doc says I need to lift to maintain muscle. Sometimes I get too competitive and run faster and lift more weight than my doctor would approve of.

I want to be in the best shape I can be again.

I hope recovery will not take more than 3 months before I can return to my desk. My wife gets scared when I speak of potential risks and side effects.

Would love to hear what the real post-transplant life will look like.

Has anyone been able to run again post-transplant and live a (somewhat) normal life?

Thanks for reading this!

My father underwent liver transplant, abdominal pain has started 2 weeks after the surgery. It's been 3 months now, he is still suffering from pain. All his test reports are fine and the doctors are unable to conclude the reason for pain. They are not much concerned since reports show nothing. We have also taken him to a different hospital and but no use. Not sure when he will be pain free. Did anyone see this kind of issue after liver transplant?
