Basically, a “double atrium!” So, don’t freak out if your echo mentions this. At first you might think, “ what’s wrong?” But what happened is your new pre-owned heart needed something to attach to. This is why your echo will show a huge or large left atria.

Being a lucky, blessed, and grateful heart recipient, I really try to raise awareness about heart health in general. After being diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) in 2008, and after several procedures (including open heart surgeries, thanks to an organ donor, I was blessed with a heart (my Gift of Life) on April 20, 2015.

Heart disease is still the #1 cause of death in the 🇺🇸. So, let's all please get involved and make heart health a priority. Heart disease doesn't discriminate at all. Someone has a heart attack approximately every40 seconds! I survived a massive heart attack 2008.

Throughout the month of February, I will post materials related to heart health, including information about the risk factors etc. Uncontrolled blood pressure is one such risk factor. It is extremely important to monitor regularly and manage our blood presure to avoid strokes and other cardiac events (along with other diseases). Please download the blood pressure log and try to track/monitor. (See link)

I look forward to meeting and connecting with you all. I just had a heart transplant, it’s day 25 for me today. What a journey this whole experience is so surreal I look forward to meeting other people that are in similar situations. I have had three weekly heart biopsies that have been really good so now they go to biweekly for the next three months and then after that once a month. I am allowed to leave about an hour away and that’s where I will be for the next three months and then after that if all goes well, I can finally head home about eight hours away. I’ve been documenting my journey on YouTube, which has been my way of getting through it if you’re interested, my channel is called BuckRidgeHomestead . If anyone has any questions about getting the call and being on the list, or medications let me know. A I feel so much gratitude and blessed today I wrote a letter to the donor family and I’m excited to get that submitted to the BC transplant centre is anyone else here from British Columbia Canada? Saving Two Babies’ Lives With One Pioneering Approach to Heart Valve Transplantation

A domino transplant happens when one patient receives an organ transplant and, in turn, donates a healthy organ or healthy parts of an organ to another patient, becoming both a recipient and a live donor. In Mia and Brooklyn’s case, Mia received a full heart transplant, which then made it possible for the healthy valves from her old heart to be placed into Brooklyn’s heart through a partial heart transplant. Making it all happen required the right patients, the right timing, and the tireless teamwork of a multidisciplinary care team that included the transplant service team, child life services, nurses, doctors, the perioperative and surgical teams, and more.
